Ian is one of four Founders of Decom Energy and was appointed Chairman of its subsidiary, Fairfield Energy in 2016. Immediately prior to this, he was Chief Operating Officer of Fairfield Energy and had been a member of the main Board and various subsidiary Boards. Ian also served as Step Change in Safety’s operator Co-Chair and was a member of Step Change in Safety Limited’s main Board. His career began at Britoil PLC before he moved to Hamilton Oil Co. (later BHP Petroleum) where he held a number of managerial positions including offshore installation manager, before finally adopting the role of Regional Manager for SH&E. He joined PGS Atlantic Power as Operations Manager for Premier Oil in Jakarta before returning to the North Sea in 2000 where, after holding various asset management positions with Kerr McGee UK Limited, he became Director, Production. In 2006 he adopted the role of Director UK Operations with Nexen UK Ltd before moving to Fairfield Energy in 2010. A Petroleum Engineer by training, Ian graduated from Aberdeen University and has attended INSEAD’s Advanced Management Programme.
Graeme is one of four Founders of Decom Energy and was appointed Managing Director in 2016. Graeme joined its subsidiary, Fairfield Energy in 2011 as Group Controller before progressing to Head of Finance and Company Secretary when he was heavily involved in the commercial aspects of the transition to become a Decommissioning Operator. A Chartered Accountant, Graeme trained in Aberdeen with Johnston Carmichael before moving overseas with Ernst & Young. On his return he moved into Upstream Oil & Gas, with stints at Kerr McGee, Ineos and most materially with BP in leadership roles in the UK and Algeria. Graeme is also a Non-Executive Director of Fairfield Energy. Graeme played a pivotal role in the process of establishing Fairfield Decom with Heerema and AF Offshore Decom. As the Managing Director of Fairfield Decom, Graeme is directly accountable for the day to day management of the business.
Ronald van Waaijen
Ronald is a business development professional with almost 25 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry. He has held the position of Vice President Sales & Business Development for the North Sea for Heerema since 2014. During this time, Ronald has driven Heerema’s strategy in the decommissioning market, playing a pivotal role in the development of the strategic partnership with AF Offshore Decom and later the establishment of Fairfield Decom with Decom Energy and AF Offshore Decom. A civil engineer by background, Ronald has been involved in the execution and tendering of a broad range of offshore installation and removal projects. He has been instrumental in securing a number of landmark contracts and frame agreements for Heerema, one of which was the largest EPRD Contract ever awarded to date. With international business experience in the Netherlands, Malaysia and the United States, Ronald has mastered the art of trust-building in business relationships and the development of client focused contracting solutions.
Johannes has worked within the decommissioning industry since the start of his AF-Gruppen career in 2004 most recently working in the role of VP Commercial, Business Development & Innovation for AF Offshore Decom (AFOD). During his career Johannes has been instrumental in the successful execution of several major EPRD projects working in a variety of roles including Offshore Construction Manager and Project Manager. Between 2014 and 2019, he fulfilled the role of Project Director for AFOD with responsibility for offshore removal projects in the German, UK and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea. Johannes has a Master of Science degree from the Norwegian University of Science & Technology and has attended INSEAD’s Management Acceleration Programme.
